Kent Sholars is an award-winning communicator and a senior vice president at the largest PR agency in the world. Kent brings more than 20 years of public and private sector communications experience, with a strong focus on crisis communications, public affairs and reputation management. Prior to joining Edelman, Kent developed and managed client engagements at two other public relations agencies in Dallas.
Among his notable engagements, Kent developed and executed crisis communications plans for a large regional financial institution (Bank of Oklahoma/Bank of Texas), conducted crisis training for a multi-national IT networking corporation (Ericsson) and supported various defense litigation-related communications, often in cases of wrongful death or product liability. Earlier in his career, Kent managed message development and research for the public affairs war room at AT&T.
Before transitioning into the agency world, Kent spent ten years working at the intersection of communications, policy and politics. Kent ran communications and media campaigns for political candidates and elected officials in Michigan, West Virginia and Texas. In addition, Kent has served on staff in the Texas House of Representatives, at the White House Office of Management and Budget and as a senior advisor to Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07). Kent also worked as a lobbyist for a business trade association and a large government relations firm. A native Texan, Kent has a Bachelor of Arts in communications and political science from Southwestern University and a Master of Arts in political management from the George Washington University.
